What the AQI Means

The U.S. Air Quality Index translates concentrations of major outdoor pollutants into one number. The displayed AQI is the highest individual AQI among the modeled pollutants.

Higher values mean more pollution and greater potential health concern. Values of 100 or below are generally considered satisfactory; values above 100 become unhealthy first for sensitive groups and then for everyone as the number rises.

Particulate Matter Details

PM2.5 consists of fine particles 2.5 micrometers wide or smaller. These particles can travel deep into the lungs and may enter the bloodstream.

PM10 includes inhalable particles 10 micrometers wide or smaller. Dust, smoke, soot, pollen fragments, and other suspended material can contribute to particle levels.

U.S. AQI Categories

Air-quality values on this page are model-based estimates from the Open-Meteo Air Quality API using Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service data. They may differ from a nearby regulatory monitor. AQI is intended for general information and is not a medical diagnosis.
